“Come for the coffee… stay for the food”
Yemek run two eateries in town; a family-run café in the heart of Hadleigh, offering traditional British and Turkish menus, with a sister business at the Palmeira Arches offering a similar menu and spectacular views of the Estuary.
Having had my 50th birthday night out at the Yemek bistro at the Arches, where a group of about ten of us had a relaxed meal of Turkish meze without a single complaint, I decided to visit their café in the heart of Hadleigh, just up the road from Morrison’s. The Hadleigh café can often be busy at lunchtimes, but the service is prompt and friendly. From the delicious smell of coffee I knew straightaway that our family lunch would be in great hands. And the coffee is amazing – so many cafés can’t just do a basic black coffee that doesn’t taste bitter, so I often tend to be disappointed. Not this time..
We ordered a mixed shish wrap which was filled with salad, beautifully cooked lamb and chicken and came with delicious, crispy golden French fries and a yogurt dip, and a tasty grilled cheese and tomato panini which was simple, uncomplicated and full of flavour. The staff are friendly and attentive and the prices very reasonable. You can always taste the love that goes into a meal, I always say, and my compliments to the chef for a memorable lunch.
I can also recommend a fry-up or an omelette stuffed with delicious Sucuk Turkish sausage.
I don’t “do” Google Reviews, I told the owner when he asked. Those mealy-mouthed one-star reviews left with hardly a moment’s consideration can destroy a business’s reputation. But if I like a local business, for whatever reason (especially an eatery!) I’m always pleased to leave a detailed review and personal recommendation on iloveessex.co.uk.
I cannot understand why anyone would be disappointed with a meal at Yemek’s in Hadleigh or Westcliff. Every time I’ve been I’ve been welcomed warmly, served promptly and left feeling thoroughly satisfied. Long may they continue.
